GAIN is a group of active neighbors working together to enhance community and decrease crime in the area around the Aurora Corridor north of Woodland Park, south of 95th. GAIN’s vision is to bring permanent changes resulting in a safe and involved neighborhood.

We are a grass roots effort, all volunteer with the belief that we can do something to better our community. Our first 'real' meeting, August 2005, included 12 block captains and neighbors. During October of 2005 we held our first public safety forum with over 400 people in attendance including members from the police department, the mayor's office, and the city council.

Since that time we have continued to grow. We are involved in advocacy with the city regarding the issues relating to crime and public safety. We are also involved in community building activities because we feel this is an essential element of crime prevention. Please join us in our efforts.

We are not alone in our efforts,

In November 2006 we received this letter from Captain Washburn of the Seattle Police Department:

"Congratulations for all your hard work making your neighborhood safer.
Yesterday I was presented with our most recent statistics on narcotics throughout the city which includes a breakdown of the top 10 police beats for narcotics activity in the city.  The Nora-4 beat, which includes Aurora Avenue, Greenwood Avenue and Stone Way from 85th to Northgate Way, has consistently been included in the 10 worst narcotics areas; however, it is no longer on the list.
Please pass on my sincere appreciation to all the members of GAIN.  Despite the fact that the Seattle Police Department has worked extensively on this problem, I know that this milestone would not have been reached this soon, and perhaps not at all without our strong partnership with GAIN.  Your coordinated efforts with safety walks, public awareness, lighting, pay phones and information-sharing with law enforcement  has really paid off."
