GAIN Block Watch Support
Seattle Night Out is coming up
soon! This is your chance to close down your street to auto
traffic and hold a block party.
Start planning now for the summertime annual block watch
event - your own Seattle Night Out!
In 2006, the GAIN area had more than 23 block parties
on Seattle Night Out
(up from only 11
the previous year). We are available to offer support
and assistance for new block captains in our area,
75th to 95th, Greenwood to Aurora.
Being a block captain is easy. You can choose your own
level of participation. Some block captains focus on the
once-a-year block gathering for “Seattle Night Out” (first
Tuesday of August – see Seattle Night
Out) . Other block captains
choose to get more involved in GAIN and greater crime
prevention efforts in their neighborhood.
To learn more about becoming a block captain, contact GAIN
at gaingroup@gmail.com
and/or the
Police Department’s Crime Prevention Coordinator, Neil
Hansen, 684-4689 or neil.hansen@seattle.gov.
For more information on the Police Department’s Block Watch
program, see Block Watch Program.
Most block captains start by organizing a meeting with as
many of your neighbors as possible. The most successful way
to organize this is to work with Neil Hanson at the Police
Department (see contact information above). Choose a
date/time/location, create a flyer with the date/time and
reason to organize, and then pass out the flyer to your
block.
