Welcome to GAIN News, the email newsletter for
Greenwood Aurora Involved Neighbors (GAIN), along
with updates on the Aurora Avenue Task Force.
Say “NO” to Aurora Jail – July 12
Please attend the city’s official meeting so you can voice
your opinion about a possible jail on Aurora. The meeting
will be held
Saturday, July 12, 9:00am-12:00pm at North
Seattle Community College, 9600 College Way N, in the
Wellness Center (gym) located on the I-5 side of the college,
just south of the NE parking lot (free on weekends).
Numbers count in opposing this jail. Already many of you
have sent in your letters. Thanks! Haller Lake Community

their planning meeting.
If you haven’t done so already, please write Mayor Greg
Nickels and City Councilmember Tim Burgess. Here is a
Sample Letter. You may submit your letter online in the Jail
Comment Form
and/or send a letter to Mayor Greg Nickels,
Seattle City Hall, PO Box 94749, Seattle, WA 98124. Please
also email your letter to City Councilmember Tim Burgess,
tim.burgess@seattle.gov. The city has created a Jail
Information Website
to answer many of the questions about
the jail.

Register for Block Parties
It's time to plan a block party for Seattle Night Out on
Tuesday, August 5! This is an annual event with more than
23 parties in the GAIN area in previous years. It's easy to
organize and a great way to meet your neighbors! For more

On-line Registration Form. If you are unsure if there is a
block captain for your block or you might be willing to
organize a party, please email us at

GAIN Walks – July/Aug/Sep
The community walks provide a chance to know your
neighborhood and help deter crime by making your presence
known. Toby (our group walk leader) has set a new walk
schedule. Note that we will be alternating our meeting
locations. One is near Greenwood Park (87
th and Fremont)
and the other at Half Price Pots (82
nd and Aurora).

Picnic at Police Station – June 28
The annual Picnic at the Precinct is this Saturday June 28, 1-
4pm at 10049 College Way N. Everyone is invited. Enjoy
dancing, music, food, magic, balloons, and raffles! Get a
tour of the station; meet local officers, SWAT, K-9 and
more.
