This house in Naha City Okinawa Japan was designed by Matsuyama Architect and Associates. A truly modern structure whose top floor cantilevers towards the city its form sits perfectly at odds with the surrounding urban vernacular.
Designed by OOPEAA this modern 21st century church in northern Finland has a log-built interior core and an exterior ‘cloak’ made with aspen shingles dipped in tar. The structure was handmade using traditional building techniques. It has a simple box-like form and a gabled roof topped with a lantern skylight that filters natural light into the building.
According to the architect Nerein Perera this Sri Lankan cabin was built with the local environment in mind. “The materials used are limited to steel timber and bamboo tats attempting to keep the lines thin as possible…keeping intervention on site minimal letting the natural ground the vegetation the run‐off of water to flow uninhibited.”
As with the home above the residence below features a shingled roof a popular choice for traditional stucco homes. A tropical vibe is created by the white stucco of the home below the minty color of the shutters (which mirrors the deep blue-green of the pool) and the palm trees that surround the house.
