Rising above the treetops in El Jonuco Nuevo Leon Mexico Narigua House is comprised of a series of overlapping and cantilevered volumes. Designed by architect David Pedroza Castañeda the home features a rustic and earthy red hue that complements the surrounding landscape.
That roof over your head can offer much more than mere cover or shade. With a myriad of contemporary designs roofs are organic sculptural pitched flat and curved. They are walkways viewing platforms places to relax to swim and garden. And increasingly the roof can provide a building’s energy needs. These fifteen contemporary roofs showcase the array of designs utilized by architects in order to raise the roof.
This two-story house by Architekten Innauer Matt named after the clients as “Haus für Julia und Björn” (House for Julia and Björn) has a steep roof and structural elements that include roof cantilevers. The roof’s pitch allowed for loft spaces to be added to the smaller bedrooms.
While the exterior of the house was largely left untouched in terms of style it is the interior that got a major facelift with a breezy open living area and a chic neutral color scheme. Rough industrial surfaces of the old home were largely done away with while a few features such as the concrete block fireplace in the living room were retained.
This lovely fireplace becomes the focal point in the living area with large glass walls that connect it visually with the fabulous landscape outside. The redesigned kitchen and bathrooms also embrace this cheerful modern look with light grays and white dominating the backdrop. Curated decor accessories and additions such as the trendy throw pillows add a splash of color to each room.
Smart midcentury modern decor iconic lighting fixtures such as the George Nelson table lamps and the Seppo Koho pendants enliven the living and dining space. The fusion of timber and concrete further aids in creating a beautiful ambiance that is both relaxing and contemporary at the same time.
