Designed by OOPEAA this modern 21st century church in northern Finland has a log-built interior core and an exterior ‘cloak’ made with aspen shingles dipped in tar. The structure was handmade using traditional building techniques. It has a simple box-like form and a gabled roof topped with a lantern skylight that filters natural light into the building.
Contrast is a wonderful thing when it comes to white stucco! In the next image we see how dark trim beautifully complements a creamy stucco home highlighting the large number of windows. Last but not least we see a Mediterranean-style stucco home in the image below.
This two-story house by Architekten Innauer Matt named after the clients as “Haus für Julia und Björn” (House for Julia and Björn) has a steep roof and structural elements that include roof cantilevers. The roof’s pitch allowed for loft spaces to be added to the smaller bedrooms.
Wooden framed glass doors stand in contrast to the white contemporary walls even as brilliant pendants and oversized floor lamps bring both color and sculptural pattern into the dining room and bedrooms. The kitchen with a wine storage facility and a full pantry also serves as a cozy social zone for the entire family while a private courtyard with a sunken lounge easily doubles as a Zen-inspired meditative nook.
Classics such as the and the Artemide Nesso lamp in the living room and Tulip tables and chairs in the dining room ensure that everything looks both curated and classy despite the invigorating mash up of styles.
The ground floor houses a large study along with a family room and a bedroom which open up towards the elegant courtyard. An open plan living area with a kitchen and dining space occupies the first floor while the top level contains the master suite and an additional bedroom.
