Treehouse Solling a two-story tower by Baumraum is located in Uslar North Germany. Its clever roof structure was formed using curving sheets of zinc and incorporates a skylight – perfect for stargazing. Designed by Finnish architecture studio Sanaksenaho Arkkitehdit Oy the two-story Villa Musu portrays an almost organic form naturally flowing and blending with the surrounding landscape. Its gently rounded roof has a bean-like configuration when viewed from above.

Do not be fooled by the name though as this secondary dwelling can be used by other members of the family as well and is often turned into a guest house or a home studio/office space. Located in the beautiful suburb of The Gap this lovely one-bedroom granny flat was designed by Baahouse + Baastudio.

This two-story house by Architekten Innauer Matt named after the clients as “Haus für Julia und Björn” (House for Julia and Björn) has a steep roof and structural elements that include roof cantilevers. The roof’s pitch allowed for loft spaces to be added to the smaller bedrooms.

Of course the reason it has become the standard practice is because it makes plenty of sense and works more often than not. But when faced with the challenges of a unique lot on a narrow limestone ridge next to Specht Harpman Architects decided to flip things around and design a rooftop entry.

As with the home above the residence below features a shingled roof a popular choice for traditional stucco homes. A tropical vibe is created by the white stucco of the home below the minty color of the shutters (which mirrors the deep blue-green of the pool) and the palm trees that surround the house.

White stucco creates a refreshing feel on the exterior of this next featured home. Note the way greenery in deep tones adds a charming element to the front of the residence! Manicured greenery truly shines when it’s placed in front of white stucco homes. The storybook feel of the plants mirrors the storybook feel of the home below. Note other charming touches such as French doors and matching urns on the wall near the entrance.

Designed by ARX Portugal + Stefano Riva this house in Juso Portugal is built over three floors (including an underground level). The top floor concrete enclosure accommodates the home’s private spaces and the rooftop affords views of the surrounding area sea and nearby mountains of Sintra.
